COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Crews have found the body of a man who fell out of a boat while fishing on Beaver Pond near Whiteville this morning.
Columbus County Emergency Services Director Kay Worley says the man and his wife were fishing near US 74/76 when the man stood up to look at some bird eggs under the bridge, and the boat turned over around 10 a.m. Whiteville Rescue says Paul Formyduval, 70, from Castle Hayne, drowned, but his wife Martha got to shore safely.
Rescue crews got to the scene about 10 minutes after Formyduval went underwater. They found him around 11:30 a.m.
Worley says crews used Lake Waccamaw's sonar boat to find the man with the help of the Columbus County Sheriff's Office Dive Team. The body was taken to Columbus Regional Healthcare in Whiteville, where the Formyduval was pronounced dead.
