WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) -- When you look at Katie Diehl and Madison Hammonds talking with one another, you'd think they're old friends. In a way...they are. Madison is an eighth grade student at Central Middle School and though she likes eighth grade, she really loved seventh grade. That's because Mrs. Diehl was her teacher.
Madison nominated Mrs. Diehl and said, "She would tell us about what she was wearing if it was kind of different. She's not afraid to be herself and express her style. If everybody's wearing one thing, Mrs. Diehl would go out of her way to make sure she's different."
The lesson behind her clothes was always about more than fashion; it was about being unique and confident each day.
Thanks to our sponsors Teacher's Aid, McDonalds, Scarless Vein Care and Corning Credit Union, WWAY can surprise a different teacher each week with a $400 to Teacher's Aid. In addition to the teacher getting a ton of cash to stock up on school supplies, McDonald's is also providing gift certificates for students.
This week "Good Morning Carolina" anchor Ashley Jacobs surprised Katie Diehl in her 7th grade classroom at Central Middle School.
