COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- The wife of a well known Columbus County criminal is heading to prison herself for trying to tamper with her husband's criminal trial.
Prosecutors say during the trial of her husband, B.J. Wright, in 2012, Karen Sealy Wright tampered with the process by contacting a juror and offering to pay him $2,500 in exchange for a vote of not guilty. B.J. Wright's case ended in a mistrial and triggered the investigation of his wife.
Karen Wright pleaded guilty yesterday to one count of harassment of a juror, one count of obstruction of justice and one count of offering bribes, the District Attorney's Office says. A judge sentenced her to 23 to 55 months suspended with three years supervised probation. The DA says as part of her probation, Wright was sentenced to three months in prison to be served immediately. Ms. Wright, who was out on bond, was taken into custody.
In August 2012 B.J. Wright pleaded guilty to numerous felonies. He is currently serving up to 17 years in prison.
