CERRO GORDO, NC (WWAY) -- Mark Little turned in his resignation last week as head football coach and athletics director at West Columbus High School after two years in Cerro Gordo. Prior to his arrival at West Columbus Little served as head coach at West Stanly High School. Little previously served as the head football coach at Whiteville High. Coincidentally, Little's son is currently the head football coach at Whiteville, Mark Little.
West Columbus sported a 3-8 record in 2013 under Mark Little. The Vikings advanced to the second round of the state playoffs in 2013. West Columbus had a 4-8 record in 2012 under Mark Little. The 2012 season ended in the first round of the state playoffs.
Little has coached high school football 38 years in a row. He tells WWAY that he's looking forward to taking some time off, but he didn't rule out a return to coaching. Little does not plan to finish out the school year. His resignation will start in mid-April.
