FAIR BLUFF, NC (WWAY) -- The Columbus County Sheriff's office says two men involved in the trial for former Fair Bluff Police Chief Marty Lewis were arrested over the weekend.
James Scott and Earnest Smith were arrested on drug charges.
Scott testified during the trial for Lewis last week. He told the jury he and Lewis were close friends. Scott also told the jury he sold Lewis drugs several times.
The Columbus County Sheriff's office says Fair Bluff Police arrested Scott early Saturday morning for maintaining dwelling for controlled substance, possessing drug paraphernalia and felony cocaine possession. Scott bonded out that same day for $16,000. He was due in court today.
SBI investigator Adrienne Harvey also mentioned Smith when she testified in the Lewis trial last week. Witnesses say Smith, like Scott, is a drug dealer. Harvey seized phone records from Lewis in the investigation that show Lewis and Smith making phone calls to each other.
Smith was arrested early this morning and charged with conspiring to traffic cocaine, according to the Sheriff's Office. Smith bonded out for $10,000.
