Two women charged in connection with Columbus County murder

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A Whiteville woman is the fifth person charged in connection with a murder last month near Tabor City.

The Columbus County Sheriff's Office says deputies arrested Amanda Christine Calhoun yesterday. She is charged with accessory after the fact to murder, accessory after the fact to attempted murder and accessory after the fact to attempted robbery. The charges stem from a shooting on Shug Norris Road Oct. 8 that killed Lee Travis Wright, 20, and injured Johnathan Elgin Long, 25.

Investigators arrested Christopher Frione, 29, Darrius Dequan Hunter, 20, Demoncrick Hunter, 23, and Charles Thomas Little, 19, with murder and conspiracy to commit robbery. Detectives say they all confessed to the crimes. They are in jail without bond.

Investigators say Calhoun's charges come from a grand jury last week. They say she is Frione's girlfriend and was driving the car carrying the four other suspects. Investigators say she learned after the fact what happened and concealed that information from law enforcement.

The Sheriff's office says the grand jury also issued indictments for the four men for attempted murder and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon in addition to their earlier charges.

Calhoun is out of jail on $50,000 unsecured bond.

The grand jury also indicted Long's girlfriend Brittany Norris for felony obstruction of justice. Investigators say she took items from the home before they arrived and gave them false information. She is out of jail on $25,000 unsecured bond.
