COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A fight over a $5 poker game has earned a Tabor City man up to five years in prison.
A judge sentenced Prentice Reaves to 40 to 60 months in prison after a jury convicted Reaves of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
Prosecutors say on Jan. 5, 2013, Reaves and the victim were playing cards at Mary's Arcade in Tabor City when they started arguing.
Evidence presented during his trial showed that during the argument Reaves pulled out a handgun and shot the victim once in the abdomen before running away, prosecutors say. The victim had to have surgery for his injuries.
