COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Columbus County Sheriff's detectives are investigating a burglary overnight that ended with a man stabbed to death.
At about 2:25 a.m. deputies responded to 483 Todd Town Rd. in the Mollie community. When they got there, they found Christopher Lee Nobles, 34, lying on the shoulder of Todd Town Road about 100 yards from the house. Tabor City EMS took Nobles to the emergency room in Loris, SC, where he was pronounced dead from an apparent stab wound to the chest.
James Berry Huggins III, 32, who lives in the house also received minor stab wounds, but did not immediately seek medical treatment, the Sheriff's Office said.
Both Nobles and Huggins have extensive criminal histories dating back more than a decade.
An autopsy will be conducted on Nobles's body in Raleigh later today or tomorrow.
