FAIR BLUFF, NC (WWAY) -- State investigators are looking into a house fire that left a 75-year-old Fair Bluff woman dead.
Columbus County Fire Marshall Scott Merritt says they got the call around 11:15 Sunday night.
When firefighters arrived, they found Darcus Ann Bullard dead, about six feet from the door, as if she had tried to escape the flames.
Merritt says the cause of the fire is undetermined, but he says they think it could have been caused by discarded smoking materials.
He says the body is being sent to Raleigh for an autopsy.
