COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A police officer in Fair Bluff faces secret peeping charges after he went missing last week.

Lake Waccamaw Police Chief Scott Hyatt says Donald Brian Beauchaine faces several counts of secret peeping.

Hyatt could not release many details about the investigation, but he says there is at least one victim they know about. The SBI is examining the evidence they found in Beauchaine's Lake Waccamaw home after someone reported a camera inside.

Hyatt says Beauchaine is no longer employed at the Fair Bluff Police Department. Fair Bluff's police chief referred us to the town manager for any questions, but he has not returned our call.

Hyatt says crime involving police officers should not reflect on all law enforcement.

"In particular when a police officer gets involved in crime, it hurts all law enforcement officers," Hyatt said. "I would hope the community understands the actions of one bad cop doesn't reflect the badge as a whole."

The Columbus County Sheriff's Office says Beauchaine is currently in the hospital, but did not tell us why. Deputies say they cannot serve Beauchaine the warrants until he is out of the hospital.
